My choice of black and white utilises the theme explored by those great photographers and film directors (one known to all: Ingmar Bergman) who, for their masterpieces, opted for the intensity, the detail and the living magic of monochrome. I have always been convinced that colour, though beautiful, distracts and cannot provide a window into people’s souls nor give full expression to their scars, their sufferings and their love.
In any case, the quality of a silver-gelatin print is, for me, infinitely superior to that obtained from a cold inkjet impressed onto a sheet using the binary system. Put simply, there is no meaningful comparison between digital and analogue processing in the field of fine arts.
